001: What's On Stoke & Staffordshire
Teapot Tour, Trentham Live, Ceramics Workshops, World of Wedgwood, Lunar Appoints New Head Chef, Property and More.
WHAT’S ON/THINGS TO DO ✅
Teapot Tour; MOTHERTOWN MOOCH 🏺 6th June. Simon Davies is at it again as he continues to bring together a community of like-minds to reconnect and revel in Stoke-on-Trent’s culture. Teapot Tours unearth and present the soul of Stoke to it’s people and each event has so-far proved highly engaged and popular. This one starts at Westport Lake, through Burslem Port and ends at the pub with poetry and African food. Tickets will sell-out so be quick.
Trentham Live. Aug 15- 18. Live music is kicking off at Trentham Gardens from the end of June with Trentham Live being the main event in mid-August. Throughout July there are a series of events and Trentham Live brings four headline acts to the lakeside concert venue. Come rain or shine people come out in force for these events. Fingers crossed for sun which makes the setting particularly stunning.
Amber Lion Ceramics Workshop. Sunday 9th June, World of Wedgwood. Josiah and Co is packed full of art and goodies from local artisans, now they’re bringing workshops to the table too with local artists sharing their craft knowledge with people. In this one you can make your own jug with Leone from Amber Lion Ceramics. There are loads of ways to get your hands in clay across Stoke, I like how Josiah and Co are creating a space to champion up and coming local artists though. World of Wedgwood are doing a good job of putting on a swathe of events to engage crowds from all over.
Lost+Found Projects 1st Birthday. Sat 3rd June 10-4. Sample and yard sale. Lost+Found projects are making a name for themselves by restoring original pieces of furniture into memorable items. They’re fighting the good fight against flat pack furniture in their corner of Burslem. Sitting next door to Barewall Art Gallery it’s a highly creative spot in a creative place. Go and say happy birthday, you might leave with a re-purposed cushion and find out who Enos Lovatt is.
Food Highlight - Lunar Appoints New Head Chef 🌙
Change is in air at Lunar with Niall Keating moving on and new Head Chef, Carl Riley joining the team. Other local media has quickly come out to say how Niall Keating “quit for Gary Neville” (*rolls eyes*) we’re not sure how true that attention-grabbing headline is and Coronation Street drama isn’t our style anyway. What’s more important are the changes in Lunar’s menu.
They are introducing a small plates menu to encourage more informal and communal dining and the Plat Du Jour, starting at £36 for two courses, is good value. The multi-course Lunar Experience Menu will continue at a reduced cost, with the seven and nine-course options still available.
Beneath the headlines and moving parts, this feels like a really good move for Lunar. The new food hasn’t entered this writers mouth yet, but making the restaurant more accessible and reducing the price point is a smart move to encourage repeat visits and open the doors wider to more people.
PROPERTY 🏡
New development in Werrington, Ash Bank Heights providing reasonably priced family homes in a good countryside, and city-accessible location.
