Funny Night at the Comedy Kiln. 22/08, 7.15pm, BottleCraft. Ready for some laughs and a side-order of quality craft ales? Then get along to the Comedy Kiln this Thursday upstairs at Stoke’s finest artisan ale bar, BottleCraft, where six of the Midland’s finest comics will be performing. Can’t make it? There’s another one on 26/09, same time, same location. Free admission.
Paint Pots with a Pint at Longton’s Kiln at Number 12. 23-24/08 & 26/08, 12pm-6pm. If pottery painting with a tipple in hand sounds like your idea of heaven, then check out creative cafe/workshop Kiln at Number 12, which is hosting a series of events for the bank holiday weekend. On 23/08 (7pm-10pm), it’s Italian night, with two shot pots to paint, a Limoncello Spritz and a deli box for £30, while on 24/08 and 26/08, there’s a full bar all day and pottery painting throughout the evening (10am-10pm). The bar/cafe is downstairs while the pottery workshops are hosted upstairs by Dimbleby Ceramics.
New Pub Opens in Lichfield 20/08. Titanic Brewery pub The Beacon opens today in the heart of Lichfield on Tamworth Street in a gorgeous building with original Tudor features. Formerly known as The Pig, it’s the 17th pub from the Stoke-on-Trent-based brewery and you can enjoy a Plum Porter or a White Star Golden Ale inside or in the beer garden. If you’re in the area, pop into The Quill and Scholar, a new gourmet gastro pub also situated on Tamworth Street with Roast Gressingham duck breast and Chalkstream trout fillet on the menu.
Step Back Through Stoke’s History with Heritage Open Days 06/09-15/09, various locations. A chance to see locations and collections not usually
open to the public for free, highlights of Stoke’s Heritage Open Days include behind-the-scenes access at V&A Wedgwood, tours of Chatterley Whitfield, Middleport, Spode and Moorcroft plus a talk on The Golden Age of Canals at Etruria Industrial Museum (13/09). Free admission.
