WHAT’S ON/THINGS TO DO ✅
HIGHLIGHTED ⬇️ (FULL EVENTS LISTINGS BELOW)
Last Supper for FEASTED at Spode. 19/10, Spode Works. FEASTED’s chef’s table, led by Chris Cohen, is considered one of Stoke’s best dining experiences. It will be closing its doors this Autumn, so with less than a couple of months’ worth of dinner service left (and space for just 10 diners), foodies are advised to secure a spot for the last themed menu, which is set to be introduced on 08/09. The nine-course, micro-seasonal, hyper local tasting menu costs £90 for lunch and £120 for dinner per person. Call them beforehand if you have any allergies.
Open Weekend for Stockton Brook Water Works. 27/09, 10am-3pm & 28/09 11am-4pm. Set in a green oasis between Stoke and Staffs Moorlands, Victorian canalside building Stockton Brook Water Works will open its grand oak engine doors later this month as it applies for a Shared Prosperity Grant from Staffordshire Moorlands District Council to complete renovation works. There’s drop-in drawing fun for kids, while on 28/09, Staffordshire Wildlife Trust will lead some family wildlife activities. Louise Adams from Stockton Brook Time & Space CIC told The Knot, “The main reason for the community open days is to show people the site, get feedback about our ideas, and hear everyone else’s. We’ll then apply for more funding to continue restoration.” The plan is to host arts, nature and heritage events here. They’ve raised £4,320 so far and you can donate to the Crowdfunder to help unlock this local asset.
Join Electronic Music Open Mic Nights with Electric Tentacle. 26/09 & 31/10, 7pm-12pm, Captain’s Bar. If you’re a fan of electronic music, then this free event is a must, as eight artists usually perform a 15-minute set each with a DJ in between. Co-founder Colin Selstrom told The Knot, “you might get to hear some beautiful ambient soundscapes, pounding techno, or anything in between.”
Another date for the diary is Plot Twist night (05/10, 7.30am-3am), a multi-genre event at The Underground playing punk, jungle, hardcore, D&B, grindcore, footwork, metal, breaks, beatdown, techno, and bass.
Wanna win some music tech? Electric Tentacle is hosting a prize draw to raise money for local charity Family Focus (draw 31/10, £5 to enter). It hopes to purchase and fit out a double decker play bus for vulnerable children, says Selstrom. Admission free for Open Mic nights, £9.05 for Plot Twist before 8pm, £11.25 after. £44.25 for group ticket for five people (must arrive together).
Teapot Tour Celebrates Stoke’s Changing Landscapes. 12/09, 3pm-7pm. A cool blend of history, innovation, and community spirit, Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce’s popular Teapot Tour is back, this time with the theme ‘Changing Landscapes.’ It will include a three-mile walk with The Red Haired Stokie exploring the rewilded areas of Festival Park, Etruria Valley and Middleport, an exclusive look at recent developments of former teapot factory Top Bridge Works and guest speakers including Ray Johnson from the Staffordshire Film Archive at Cherished Chimneys. Organiser Simon Davies told The Knot, “Local businessman Wayne Walker has done a great job of cleaning up the Top Bridge Works site. The c18 Trent and Mersey warehouse building, which sits next to the canal, has had its roof and windows repaired and is ready for reuse.” £10 for Chamber members, £10+ VAT for non-Chamber members.
