Staffordshire Chambers is hosting a networking event featuring talks by Shamila Iqbal, co-founder of Bathroom Mountain, and Lucie Macleod, founder of Hair Syrup (06/03, Doubletree By Hilton; tickets £30, free for chamber members). Blossom Ladies Brunch is putting on EmpowerHer Stoke – Building Community Through Culture and Enterprise (28/03, Penkhull Village Hall, 11am-4pm; tickets £10) with workshops on improving confidence through technology and tips on grant writing. You can also catch a film about Vera Brittain (08/03, Brampton Museum, 2pm; tickets £5.50) author of the World War I memoir, Testament of Youth and founder member of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament.
☕️ Spoil Mum at Middleport. 15/03, 1pm-3pm; Middleport Pottery. It’s nearly Mother’s Day, so treat mum, nana, auntie, Stokie style to a traditional afternoon tea of sandwiches and scones served on Burleigh Pottery at Middleport’s Burgess room. Tickets £24.95 adults, £12.95 children.
🎸 See the Story of the Kinks. 07/04-11/04, 7.30pm, Regent Theatre. Experience the electrifying story behind one of the 60s biggest bands, The Kinks, with multi-award-winning musical Sunny Afternoon, a tale of friendship, fame and rock history. Get ready to hear some of the group’s biggest songs, including You Really Got Me, Lola, and All Day and All of the Night. Tickets from £15.
🎡 All the Fun of the Fair. 12/02, 13/02, 14/02, 22/02, 23/02, 25/02, 26/02, 27/02, 28/02 & 01/03, 4pm-9pm; opposite Hanley Bus Station. It’s time to brace yourself for the waltzers, dodgems and the Red Devil as Funderworld Theme Park is back. If you’re looking after everyone’s bags and coats, treat yourself to a foot-long hotdog, donut or some churros from the food stalls. Admission free; pay per ride with tokens or purchase a wristband for four hours of unlimited rides.
🦇 Go Batty at Biddulph Grange. 27/04, 8pm-10pm; Biddulph Grange Country Park. Staffordshire Bat Group will walk attendees through identifying bats as you explore the reserve after sunset; bat detectors will be provided. Admission free.
🐴 Celebrating the Year of the Horse. 22/02, 11am-4pm, Potteries Museum & Art Gallery. We’ve already told you about Trentham’s CNY celebrations. You can also ring in the Lunar New Year at PMAG, with traditional music and dance performances, Chinese craft workshops, firecrackers, Kung Fu, Mask Changing, circus skills workshops and acrobatics. Admission free.
