🛥️ Sign up for Some Watery Fun. 04/04 & 02/05, 10.30am-2.30pm. It’s spring, the sun is out and it’s time to put the big coat away and blow away the cobwebs with a cruise on our gorgeous canals. Step aboard historic working narrowboat Dane and prepare to chug along the peaceful stretch of waterway from Middleport Pottery to Etruria Museum (it’s one hour each way). Tickets from £32.50 (book for 04/04 and 02/05; includes museum admission).
🎋 Brilliant Bamboo Block Party. 29/03, 12pm-3pm, Middleport. There will be creative bamboo workshops, including screen printing, at this fun event. You’ll also witness the unveiling of a bench designed by Spencer Jenkins and Middleport residents, and the event is all soundtracked by a DJ. More info here. Free admission.
💃 Tina Turner Tribute. 05/04, 7.30pm, Regent Theatre. Holly Bannis, daughter of former Hot Chocolate singer Greg Bannis, has stepped into Tina’s shoes with tribute act What’s Love Got to Do With It? Get down to some of her biggest hits including Private Dancer, Simply The Best and Nutbush City Limits. Tickets from £23.93.
✈️ Wartime Drama On Stage. 28/03-19/04, 10am-4pm, New Vic. Seamlessly blending romance, drama and fantasy, WWII play A Matter of Life and Death follows the journey of British pilot Peter Carter, who has to defend his right to live in a celestial court after leaping from his burning plane without a parachute. Tickets from £15.
🎸 Lemmy Statue Unveiling + More Dates for Motörhead Fans. 11/05, Burslem town centre. A kick-ass bronze cast of Burslem boy Lemmy is set to be unveiled in around six weeks. Get in the mood first by rockin’ up to Motörhead tribute band Motörheadache on 09/05 at the Mitchell Arts Centre. There’s also an ‘Ace of Spades’ open exhibition at Canal Street Studio in Longport on 10 & 11/05 – fans are encouraged to submit drawings, paintings, ceramics and more (£10 per entry).
🦸♀️ Comic Con is Back! 22/03, 10am-5pm; 23/03, 11am-4pm, Potteries Centre. Meet iconic figures from cult movies, attend superhero meet and greet sessions and take a selfie with Minecraft Steve, Mario, Bowser and more. Midlands Air Ambulance Charity will be selling Comic Con-themed LEGO sets and trading cards. The action will take place on Level 6. More info here and check out Jenna’s story for more deets.
🎨 Celebrate World Art Day at Wedgwood. 12/04, 10am-5pm, World of Wedgwood. Get creative with a free pen and watercolour workshop (10.30am-12.30pm) and a free kids’ workshop where little ‘uns can make a Ferdinand the Bull ceramic figure, originally designed by Arnold Machin for Wedgwood in 1942 (10am-3pm). There are also paid workshops on floral design and calligraphy and clay studio tasters.
💪 Build Your Confidence. 18/06, 9am-5.15pm; 19/06, 9am-8pm, Victoria Hall. A celebration of motivation, confidence and self-improvement, this inspirational event from local entrepreneur Kirsty Hulse (check out her excellent podcast with our founder James here) will be headlined by comedian/TV star Sue Perkins on 19/06. The two-day event features a stellar line-up of other speakers and trainers, including meditation guru Briony Gunson, poet Desree and award-winning confidence blogger/author Jess Jones.
