📚 Celebrating all Things Ceramic. 22/03, 11am-4pm, Gladstone Pottery Museum. It’s market time again! More than 50 local and national ceramicists will be in attendance at this crafty event, including former contestants of The Great Pottery Throw Down. Shop ‘til you drop as you admire the kilns. Free admission.
🧵 Make Do And Mend Chat. 23/03, 1pm, Potteries Museum & Art Gallery. Explore Mrs Sew and Sews magical world of Make Do and Mend in this inspiring talk by Meridith Towne about the women who used the most innovative, even devious, methods to maintain a fashionable wardrobe in wartime Britain. 🎺 In Town Soon: The Liverpool Philharmonic. 03/04, 7.30pm, Victoria Hall. As part of the SOT Classics series, the orchestra will be performing Dvorak’s popular Symphony Number 9 (catch a snippet of it here in all its rousing glory), Grieg’s Piano Concerto and Humperdinck’s Prelude to Hansel & Gretel. Tickets from £25.03.
🐈⬛ A SpeCATular Event. 12/04-13/04, 10am-4pm Northwood Community Centre. Connect with fellow feline enthusiasts and see marvellous moggies compete for Best in Show at the Stoke on Trent SpeCATular. Organised by the Fancy Cats Organisation., it promotes rescue cats and ethical breeders We’re sure a purrfect time will be had by all. Tickets £15 (adults), £10 (seniors), £10 (children 12-17) £5 (children 6-11).
🍿 The Potteries at War on Film. 18/03, 11am onwards, Mitchell Arts Centre. Catch a selection of stellar footage from the Staffordshire Film Archive in both colour and black and white, including the first recruits marching away, public information films, the pottery industry during wartime and VE Day celebrations. Free admission.
🎸 See The Lathums. 17/03, 7.30pm, Victoria Hall. Catch the Wigan chart toppers one of their biggest tours to date run through some of their biggest hits, including The Great Escape, Fight On and How Beautiful Life Can Be. Tickets from £34.63.
🚶♀️⛪️ Walk Two Saints Way. 22/03, 10.30am-3.30pm; meet at Potteries Museum & Art Gallery. Take the family for a stroll along our celebrated pilgrimage Two Saints Way from the canal path at Middleport to the museum. There’s a talk about discovering Saxon gold (1pm), and you can join a character performance of St Werburgh (12.30pm, 1.30pm & 2.30pm), or sit in on a talk on mental health and wellbeing with Mara Running Club founder George Bettany (2pm). The kids can also make a Werburgh wild goose (10.30am or 1.30pm). Admission free.
🪡 It’s Needle Felting Time. 20/03, 12pm-2pm, Middleport Pottery. Inspired by the Burleigh blue and white patterns, this workshop led by Vicky Pulman of Needlessly Felted will make for a fun, mindful afternoon. Materials, tea and coffee included and you’ll get to take your creation home with you. Tickets £35.
