🥳 Let Nature Banish The Winter Blues. 25/12-05/01. Yup, January can feel pretty bleak, which is why we’re signing up for Staffordshire Wildlife Trust’s 12 Days Wild, a festive challenge to do a wild thing every day or night for almost a fortnight. You’ll receive daily emails with fun ideas to help you embrace winter, including night-time star gazing, tracking animals by looking for footprints in the mud or snow, going star gazing on a clear night, or even volunteering at a nature reserve…
🫤 Blue Christmas. 19/12, 7pm, St. Michael & St. Wulfad’s Church, Stone. We know Christmas can be a challenging time for many, especially if you’ve lost a loved one this year. Avoid the pomp and ceremony and attend a short, quiet service in Stone instead.
🎅 Find Festive Buys at Trentham Maker’s Market. 21/12, 10am-4pm. Trentham Shopping Village. The kids have officially broken up from school so why not do some last-minute Christmas shopping at Trentham for original art, quirky modern crafts, vintage items, plus plenty of artisan food and drink. Admission free.
⏱️ Attend Christmas Eve Communion. 24/12, various times and locations. There’s nothing quite like Midnight Mass to get you ready for the big day. You can sing hymns and say prayers at locations including Stoke Minster, Barlaston Parish Church, St. Dominic’s Stone, St Marks’s Basford, Lichfield Cathedral and St Bertelin’s Church.
🎊 Ring In the New Year… 31/12, various times and locations. It’s only two weeks until New Year’s Eve – yikes - but don’t fret, as there’s still availability for plenty of events, including the New Year’s Eve Party at Vale Park, a dinner and disco at Moorville Hall Hotel, a New Year’s Eve Family Party at Doubletree by Hilton and, if you prefer go incognito, a New Year’s Eve Masquerade Ball at the Quarter @ Potbank.
🚶♀️ … and Walk off the Hangover… Leek to the Nine Pins, 12pm. Celebrate New Year’s Day with a bracing walk from Leek town centre to Hillswood and onto the Nine Pins, a 6km saunter that will take around two hours and 30 minutes. Admission free but secure your place and book now! Meet outside Staffs Moorlands District Council offices (by the fountain). Don’t forget your walking boots and woolly hat.
🤸♀️ Experience China Before Communism. 28/01 7pm, 29/01, 2pm & 7pm, Regent Theatre. Ready to be wowed? Shen Yun will take you on a journey through 5,000 years of Chinese culture through the medium of classical dance. Tickets from £62.
🎻 An Inclusive Classical Show. 14/03, 1.30pm, Catalyst Building, University of Staffordshire. Here’s a future date for the diary: an hour-long relaxed classical concert by the City of Stoke-on-Trent Symphony Orchestra. The show is particularly suited to people living with additional learning needs, their families and carers but anyone is welcome. Admission free - sign up here.
