Get on your dancing shoes! Newcastle is preparing for the highly anticipated return of Lymelight Festival, the town’s free celebration of local music talent for the upcoming bank holiday weekend from Friday 23-Sunday 25 May, where more than 30 local music acts will perform.
Covers band Stingray will headline the Guild Hall Stage on Saturday and talented singer/songwriter John Dhali the main act on the same stage on Sunday. Headlining the Ironmarket stage on Saturday is emo trio Claylake, with singer/songwriter Greg Murray and the Seven Wonders on the Sunday.
Showcasing up-and-coming bands and talented solo artists, this free annual event has become a key highlight on Castle’s calendar. Since its inception in 2013, more than 650 local acts have performed at the festival.
But it’s not just about the music - Castle Artisan Market will also be on hand on both Saturday and Sunday, with artisan makers, bakers and creators and delicious street food stalls for festival-goers to browse and sample.
Charlie Machin, projects and marketing executive for Newcastle BID shared: “Lymelight Festival is a much loved part of Castle’s calendar. Not only does it provide a fantastic platform for the local music scene, it also brings people of all ages together to support our vibrant music scene and brings the town’s streets alive. We’re incredibly proud to be a part of something that has such a positive impact.”
