Lymelight Festival Makes a Rockin' Return to Newcastle this May with 40 Local Acts

🎸 Championing Local Music at Lymelight. 23-25/05, 11am-4pm, Newcastle Town Centre. Wondering what to do for all the upcoming bank holidays? Get down to ‘Castle for the Lymelight Festival at the end of next month, where more than 30 up-and-coming acts will perform on outdoor stages by The Guildhall and on the Ironmarket, with local venues also hosting. Castle Artisan Market will be in attendance too, with street food stalls, artisan makers, bakers and creators. Stay tuned for updates on who’s playing when by following @lymelightfestival. Admission free.
🖌️ Easter Craft Club at Spode. 17/04-24/04, 12pm-2.30pm. There’s a range of free activities happening, from clay modelling to traditional lithograph transferring. On 16/04, you can model a bird using air dry clay and learn about Spode's famous Willow pattern. On 17/04, have a go at lithographing and transfer spring scenes on pottery. On 23/04, create your own prints inspired by Spode patterns using foam sheets, then on 24/04 make a blue and white paper plate and help Spode create a display to celebrate 100 years of Stoke-on-Trent. Admission free, drop in anytime.
⚽️ Kickabout for Cancer. 17/05, 10.45-7.15pm, Kidsgrove Athletic Football Club. One in two of us will get cancer at some point in our life. Support Cancer Research UK and get along to this day of charity football matches. Tickets £12.
🐑 He’s Behind You! Find Shaun the Sheep. until 24/04, 7.30pm, Trentham Estate. Follow the trail to discover 12 supersized colourful Shaun the Sheep sculptures painted by local and regional artists. Standing 160cm tall, each sculpture is positioned in locations around the gardens. Pick up a free activity pack at the Visitor Centre before you begin the hunt. Free admission for Trentham members, £13 for non-members (£9.50 for children aged 3-15, under 3’s go free).
👦 Empowering Boys, Strengthening Men. 22/05, 10.30am-1pm, Smithfield Works. join this launch event from The Foundry CIC, which aims to empower young men through school workshops on resilience, purpose and helping them build confidence, forge meaningful connections, and thrive in today’s world. Free admission.
📝 Murder She Didn’t Write. 01/06, 7.30pm, Regent Theatre. Edinburgh Fringe favourites Degrees of Error will create a classic Agatha Christie-inspired murder mystery on the spot in this clever piece of improvised comedy. Tickets from £16.50.
👧 Girl Power with the Spice Girls. 07/06, 7.30pm, Victoria Hall. When Adele was unable to persuade the original Spice Girls to reform, she booked the next-best thing, the Spice Girls Experience, for her August 2024 Munich Residency. Get ready to party like it’s 1997 with Sporty, Posh, Scary, Ginger and Baby Spice. Tickets from £27.95.
😝 Laughs at Funhouse Comedy Club. 14/05, 8-11pm, The Rigger. Twelve comedians battle it out to be the last one standing, with the audience voting on who gets to make a comeback for one minute before choosing a winner. Tickets £5.
