Magic Tenner Promo Launches This Weekend in Newcastle-under-Lyme
Residents encouraged to shop at local independent stores and businesses in Magic Tenner fortnight, with goods and services offered for £10 from tomorrow
What can a tenner get you these days? A couple of drinks at the pub? A portion of fish and chips? A national campaign to support the local economy, the Magic Tenner fortnight (01/03-16/03) aims to help your cash go further with a wide range of goods and services being offered for just £10.
The message behind the campaign, which is organised by Totally Locally, is that for every £10 spent in an independent business, up to £50 goes back into the local economy. Buying online or at the big national chains and supermarkets has a much smaller impact, as far less money stays in the local economy.
There are 34 businesses and market stalls participating in the initiative, including the Foundry Gym, which is offering a month’s membership for £10, and Lymelight Boulevard, which has bowling deals for two adults and two children or four children for £10.
Other offers include The Art Studio, where three frames are £10, and the Cask Bar, where you can get two gin and tonics or snap up The Ultimate Double Bacon & Cheese Burger, which is served with chips, onion rings & salad.
Charlie Machin, who helped Newcastle BID launch the initiative, said: “The Totally Locally campaign is an exciting opportunity for Newcastle, and I’m thrilled that so many businesses are getting behind the initiative. It was a great success last year and businesses saw a real uptake.
“Newcastle has some wonderful stalls and businesses and what’s been fantastic to see is the support our high street traders are giving to each other to help boost the project. I’m confident the Magic Tenner fortnight will be a success and start some real positive changes on the high street.”
