👷♀️ Construction Starts on New Public Square at Goods Yard. Work has begun on the public square as part of Capital&Centric and the council’s regeneration of Stoke Goods Yard. This phase of the project, supported by Government Levelling Up Funding, will see the creation of a new lawn, walkway and interior gardens with hangout spaces. The square is set to become a flexible space for pop-up markets and live music, with outdoor seating. Local businesses, listen up: spaces from 1,200 sq ft to 14,000 sq ft are still available here if you want to be part of it.
👨👩👧👦 Student Helps Prisoners Reunite with Family. A University of Staffordshire student scooped Student Placement of the Year at the Prison Advice and Care Trust (PACT)’s 125th Anniversary National Volunteering and Citizenship Awards for helping reunite prisoners with their families at HMP Gartree. Forensic Psychology student Hana Bosworth helped organise family days for prisoners, created activities for their children, and came up with a ‘feelings board’ so the children could express their emotions using superhero characters. PACT’s CEO sent Hannah’s feelings board to all prisons and it may be taken up by others.
🥬 New Allotment Project for Young Adults. Young adults aged 18-35 with disabilities and additional needs in Lichfield are planting and growing their own foods and cooking what they produce thanks to a new allotment project from local charity Liberty Jamboree (watch a video of them in action). The charity received £1,000 for its project from the Staffordshire EnviroGrant Scheme.
👩💼 Drive to Boost Aspiration and Skilled Employment. Want a new job or to kickstart to your career? 📸 Celebrating Local Wildlife Photography. From little owls sheltering in trees to foxes playing in dazzling sunlight, photographer Brian Maddock has captured the wild side of Stoke at Knypersley Reservoir, Brindley Ford and Chatterley Whitfield among other locations. The Staffordshire Wildlife Trust is currently celebrating his photos, which he captured with a Canon Eos 7D with telephoto lens. Brian’s story is a reminder that you don’t need to travel to experience the wonder of wildlife. All you need, he says, is a little patience – and good weather.
🚴♀️ Local Firms Capture the Highs and Lows of Junior Cycling. Staffordshire-based bike shop PAU Run & Ride has produced a film, Closing the Gap, with Stoke-on-Trent’s video production agency Reels In Motion. It follows their junior cycling team through the Junior Tour of Mendips and explores the challenges junior cyclists face to get into the sport. In addition to owning several bike shops, the company runs a scheme to support junior cyclists, Project PAU.

The development of Goods Yard, our exciting new urban neighbourhood, is entering its final stages just in time for Stoke’s centenary year, and we’re pretty excited by the whole thing. The canal jetty is being overhauled into a waterside green spot, with outdoor seating and dining while a new direct, much improved walkway will bring the Goods Yard square within a 60-second walk to Stoke Railway Station.
With the neighbourhood set to open in Spring 2025, Capital&Centric is now busy curating a collection of independent businesses to take up the 30,000 sq ft of commercial spaces still available at the site. It hopes to host a mix of bars, eateries, coffee shops, stores and creative businesses at the Vaults Warehouse; the Signal Box on Glebe Street; The Pavilion; and on the ground floor of apartment building Goods Yard Living, which will feature 174 apartments.
