🥁 Bed Down at Bet365. 21/02, Bet365 Stadium. 6pm-7am. Following a challenge from Lou Macari, ex drummer for heavy metal band Marshall Law Micky Donovan (and former resident at the Macari Centre) is dusting off his drumsticks for the first time in 35 years for the Big Sleep Out Gig. He’ll be entertaining those sleeping inside and outside the Franklyn Stand concourse for the Macari Foundation to support Stoke’s homeless. Want to perform? Email them! 😇 👿 Meet Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. 26/03, 1pm & 7pm, Regent Theatre. Touring alongside Macbeth as part of DTC’s ‘Revision on Tour’, GCSE students and literature lovers alike should book this production of a Victorian classic. Tickets from £19.50.
🌷 Craft a Ceramic Planter Pocket. 29/03, 1.30pm-4pm, Middleport Pottery. Spring has nearly sprung, and you’ll need somewhere to store all those fresh flowers from the garden. Attendees will explore surface decoration techniques, including using coloured slips, sgraffito, and textured patterns, with ceramic artist Alex Allday at this porcelain workshop. At the end, you’ll get to take home your very own hanging planter pocket. Tickets £50 including workshop and cream tea.
🎭 Theatre Teens will Love. 20/03-23/03, 7pm-8pm, Fenton Town Hall. Get the kids away from their screens and into the theatre with Restoke, which is putting on Bernadette and Other Teenage Folk Tales, a surreal exploration of adolescence and folklore created by teenagers, for teenagers. Tickets £15, £5 concessions.
🕺💃 Dancing with the Stars is Coming! 07/03-09/03, Alton Towers. Join Strictly Stars Aljaz Skorjanec and Janette Manrara, Kai Widdrington and Michelle Tsiakkas and Jowita Przystal for showcases, workshops and a black tie event. Also visiting is five times DWTS Italian Champion Pasquale La Rocca, British Dance Champion finalists David Cockram and Rosie Ward, Argentine Tango Stars Letitia & Andres, plus the Tony Greenwood 15-piece Big Band. 🎬 The Importance of Being Earnest. 23/02, 7pm, Mitchell Arts Centre. Three-time Olivier Award-winner Sharon D Clarke is joined by Ncuti Gatwa (Doctor Who; Sex Education) in this hilarious story of identity, impersonation and romance filmed live from the National Theatre in London. Watch the trailer of Wilde’s most iconic comedy first. Tickets £17.50, under 16s/students £12, concessions £14.75.
✍️ Cartoon Fun. 22/02, 11am-3pm, Framescape. As part of Creative Days on Stoke’s High Street, community arts project Framescape is hosting a workshop where you can draw live animals in collaboration with a local wildlife centre. Join in with the free pottery sessions at BCB in the old Spode factory around the corner (10am-4pm) either before or after your doodling. Free admission, no booking required.
🏺 Diggin’ Staffs Archaeology Day. 29/03, 10am-5pm, Potteries Museum & Art Gallery. Six top speakers will give illustrated talks on recent archaeological discoveries in Staffordshire and the surrounding counties. We dig the sound of ‘Heritage Crime in Staffordshire: The Current State of Play’ by the University of Staffordshire’s Dr Kirsty Squires and ‘Industrial Slipware’ by David Barker.
