Please don't give up! The Knot is the only place for good-quality and unbiased news about our area (following the demise of The Sentinel as we knew it.)
One thing I will say is that there's so much good stuff to do around here -it's just that no one seems to know about it. I Googled 'things to do in Manchester' a few days ago. Actually, there doesn't seem to be any more to DO there (apart from eating and shopping) than there is here. I'm going to try to help out and to share your message. What you've achieved so far is important. PS I'm originally from Nottingham and spent many years hating this area but I'm becoming an advocate for it in my old age.
Hi Anna, thanks for taking the time to write a message and your lovely feedback! Like you, we've been pleasantly surprsed by how many great events are on around the city. It means so much to us that you've got in touch and gives us the strength to carry on. We're so glad you're becoming an advocate for Stoke - join us we talk up the city ;-) Much love, Helen (writer at the Knot)
Thank you for you honesty, positivity and determination to see Stoke improve. I know the energy and hard work you have put into the Knot (as your team has too) Wishing you all the best (my husband and I already do a paid subscription)
Thanks Gwyneth, we wouldn't be here without you as we rely on our lovely supporters to keep us going so we can continue to provide ad-free, pop-up free positive news with no clickbait! Many thanks again for your support, it's really appreciated.

Hi Robert, your message really warmed our hearts and thanks so much for your kind offer. We'd love to pop in some time, stay tuned! What you are doing is so important and provides people with a much-needed meet-up spot. Keep up the good work, organisations like you are the reason we keep going! Love from Helen, writer at the Knot x
Mightily impressed that you’re going to keep going James! You’re so right about SOT, locals love to talk it down rather than yer average Scouser, Manc, Geordie or Yorkie (God’s County!!)!who actually talk their homes UP! I think we have to accept that there’ll always be a % of moaners and groaners who can’t, won’t or refuse to do anything to improve things and so it’s probably best to work with the willing the positive and the enthusiastic? From an appreciative subscribed reader (PS: in terms of sponsorship, might one of you consider approaching the Caudwell/Coates families?)
Hi Philip, thanks for getting in touch! It's great to hear from you. Sadly, I think you may have a point but we will never stop championing Stoke and Staffs and it's great to hear that you're with us on that journey! Much love from The Knot team x PS thanks for the sponsorship tip!
I feel your frustration in how narrow minded people are in the area. They are quick to point out what they think is failing without seeing the positive. The preservation of our heritage at Gladstone or Middleport pottery, the fact that Trentham is always absolutely packed, we’re 30 minutes from the Peak District, Cannock Chase and other beautiful areas are not much farther away.
I walk my dog every morning and one of the first things I see is Middleport pottery across the canal. It is beautiful, and always a peaceful walk along to Westport Lake.
One of the biggest issues is that people here are very parochial and have no basis of comparison. Every city has run down areas, Stoke is no where near the worst I’ve seen. I’ve been in Edinburgh recently, one of the biggest tourist cities in the world and there are areas that are awful!!! If you’ve never left Stoke how can you compare that it is no worse than other major cities.
I love it here and will continue to argue that it is a great place to be. It’s a shame so many others can’t see it. I love the podcast and your page, it’s refreshing to see positivity being shown.
